Abstract
These Regulations, under the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996, establish that every person who uses mechanized fishing boat registered under the Registration of Fishing Boats Regulations, 1980 published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 109 of October 3, 1980, for fishing in Sri Lanka waters or high seas, shall carry onboard a log book issued by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources during each fishing trip. Every person who engages in fishing, in terms of these regulations shall maintain a record of the catch in the log book, relationg to each fishing trip. The log book shall be produced for inspection to any authorized officer, if so required by such officer. Every person who engages in fishing in terms of these Regulations shall submit the log book to the authorized officer. The authorized officer shall check and certify such log book at the end of every three months. Every Owner, Captain, Skipper or Operator of the fishing boat who supplies fish for export shall be required to submit to the Competent Authority, a certificate substantially in the form A or B, as the case may be, specified in Schedule I hereto, containing a detail of each catch made by him or her. Every importer who imports fish for re-export shall furnish a duly signed catch certificate and connected documents and a certificate to the effect that the fish products are in compliance with food hygiene conditions, issued from the relevant authority of the country of export of such fish product imported for re-export. A process statement relating to such products shall be obtained from the authority of the country of export of the fish product, substantially in the Form specified in Schedule II to these regulations. Every exporter who exports fish products shall be required to obtain validated catch certificate, connected documents and a health certificate from the competent authority. The fish product so exported shall fulfill the requirement of the Fish Products (Export) Regulations, 1998.
