Abstract
This document lays down the strategy for development of fisheries sector in Sri Lanka. Chapter 1 contains an introduction of the fishing industry in Sri Lanka. Chapter 2 provides for the objectives of the strategy which includes increasing the national fish production in order to enhance the nutritional status of the nation by means of higher per capita consumption of fish, and promotion of sustainable exploitation of fisheries and aquatic resources. The production targets are laid down for various sub-sectors. Chapter 3 lays down the strategies and actions to achieve the enhanced fish production in the marine sector, inland fisheries and aquaculture. The strategies related to fishery inputs, fleet size, research and development, capacity building, infrastructure, vessel monitoring systems, marketing and governance are also provided.
