Abstract
These Regulations are made by the Minister of Health in consultation with the Food Advisory Committee under section 32 of the Food Act, No. 26 of 1980. They prohibit a person from importing, transporting, distributing, storing, selling, or advertising for sale, any food contained in a package or container, unless such package or container is labelled in accordance with the Regulations. Regulation 4 lays down the various declarations required to be made on the label. Regulation 5 provides for the size and height of letters used, format of date of manufacture and expiry. Further, the regulations are provided in respect of labelling and packaging of edible oil, prepackaged food, confectioneries, sweeteners, flavour enhancers and food treated with ionizing radiation. Regulation 12 prohibits any label or advertisement relating to food article to contain a false claim or misleading description of such food. Regulation 13 provides for the procedure to obtain permission for advertisement. Regulation 14 contains the definitions.
