Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to promote the cultivation of food crops on land of estates on which at least thirty-five acres are cultivated for any purpose other than food production. Before the end of January in each year the proprietor of every estate shall notify the Commissioner of Agrarian Services if he will cultivate, in accordance with section 5, one or more food crops listed in Schedule 2 or pay a sum of money to be determined in accordance with provisions of section 6. Persons participating in approved enterprises or undertakings may be exempted by the Minister form the obligation (sect. 7). In addition, livestock farmers or fruit growers may be exempted for the obligation to grow food crops under section 8. There shall be established a Food Production Fund for the promotion of food production on government farms and to make loans to food producers. Charges to be paid by proprietors under section 6 shall be paid into this Fund. (22 sections completed by 1 Schedule)
