Abstract
These Regulations, consisting of 13 sections and two Schedules, apply to every licensee who engages in inland fishing operation within the areas referred to in the Schedule I. A licensee shall not engage in any fishing operations in the areas referred to in the Schedule I, unless specific authorization is obtained. Only gillnets are allowed within the areas referred to in the Schedule I. The maximum number of gillnets and boats (Oru) that could be used, shall be determined by the respective Fisheries Society of the area. Gillnet mesh size should be more than 4 inches (101.6 mm) and maximum length less than 1,500 meshes. Gillnets shall be used in the specified areas only during the hours 3pm. to 7pm. for net laying and harvesting from 5am. to 9am. of the following day. A person shall engage in catching fish in the reservoir in the licence only once a day. Any person, who wished to obtain a licence under regulation 2 may make a written application (Form A of the Schedule II) to the Director-General or competent officer to receive such application together with the specific licensing fee for using a set of gillnets. Every licence issued under these regulations shall be valid for a year.
