Abstract
The Act provides restrictions on custody, sale, transport and use of the pesticide known as malathion. Importation of this insecticide is consented only to the appointed State Authority. Authorized Officers may inspect locations where the compound is handled, stored or packaged, vehicles carrying it and open sack or parcel containing it. Unlawful possession of malathion is an offence and violators shall be fined, or jailed or sentenced to both penalties.

Malathion -chemical name diethyl (dimethoxy thiophosphorylthio) succinate- is a wide-spectrum organophosphate insecticide used on insects on fruits and vegetables, mosquitoes, flies, household insects, animal parasites and lice. It is available in emulsion, wet table powder, dust able powder, ULV liquid formulations and also in formulations with many other pesticides.
