Abstract
The Policy is designed in 25 parts and contains a vision, mission, goal and a set of guiding principles followed by broad policy statements under Vulnerability, Adaptation, Mitigation, Sustainable Consumption and Production, Knowledge Management and General Statements.The vision of the Policy is a future where climate change will have no adverse consequences on Sri Lanka. Policy objectives are sensitize and make aware the communities periodically on the country’s vulnerability to climate change; take adaptive measures to avoid/minimize adverse impacts of climate change to the people; mitigate greenhouse gas emissions; and promote sustainable consumption and production. In Section B (Adaptation) the Policy considers issues of food security, conservation of water resources and biodiversity, land use planning, infrastructure development and coastal resource management. The issues that are discussed for mitigation are energy, transportation, industry, waste management and agriculture and livestock.
