Abstract
These Regulations, made by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources under Section 32 and consisting of three Parts and three Schedules, provide for the allowed vehicular exhaust emission limits for every motor vehicle in use in Sri Lanka (set out in the Schedule one). No person who is in the possession of a motor vehicle shall operate with a motor vehicle that discharges exhaust emissions into the atmosphere in excess of the Vehicular Emission Standards (Schedule one). The Commissioner of Motor Traffic may authorize any vehicle emission testing centre to be an accredited vehicle emission testing centre and certifying the vehicular exhaust emission levels of any motor vehicle. The Commissioner of Motor Traffic shall obtain the approval of the Central Environmental Authority prior to authorizing any vehicle testing centre as an accredited vehicle testing centre for the purpose of testing and certifying vehicular exhaust emission levels.
