The National Policy on Green Procurement provides for procurement of goods, works and services that minimize environmental impacts and requires the integration of environmental performance considerations into the procurement process. This Policy has been formulated within a framework of mainstreaming green concepts into the procurement cycle and developing enabling environment for its sustainable implementation. The guiding principles are laid down along with the policy goals and objectives, which includes incorporation of the green procurement concept into the existing public procurement process. Eight categories of policy statements have been included: 1. Defining and Listing of Goods, Works and Services; 2. Awareness Creation, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building; 3. Legal Mechanism and Dispute Resolution; 4. Monitoring, Verification, Evaluation and Reporting; 5. Institutional Mechanism for Policy Implementation and Monitoring; 6. Facilitation to Local Producers; 7. Financial Mechanisms; and 8. International Cooperation. Further, Policy Implementation Strategies are laid down under each of the eight categories of policy statements.
