Abstract
This Plan provides for the updated strategies and national action plan for combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Sri Lanka. It contains six chapters: 1. Introduction; 2. Situational analysis; 3. National Strategic Plan for Combating Antimicrobial Resistance in Sri Lanka 2023-2028; 4. Implementation of country AMR response; 5. Monitoring and evaluation of country AMR Response; and 6. National Action Plan with monitoring and evaluation.
Chapter 1 explains the AMR crisis and global response including the One Health approach. It also discusses the country context and Sri Lanka’s response to AMR. Chapter 2 details the strategies adopted for prevention and containment of AMR in Sri Lanka, which includes the policy support, regulations, governance mechanisms, and implementation of National Strategic Plan for combating AMR (2017-2022). Chapter 3 lays down the vision, mission and goal of the Plan and identifies seven priority areas: 1. Advancing the National Response to AMR; 2. Awareness and understanding of AMR; 3. Burden Assessment of AMR and AMC; 4. Prevention and Control of Infections; 5. Optimizing Antimicrobial Use; 6. Research and Innovation; and 7. Environmental Safety.
Chapter 4 outlines the organization of country AMR response with inputs, process, mechanisms and principles for the implementation, and integration of One Health activities of the National Action Plan on combating AMR. Chapter 5 provides for the monitoring and evaluation of Sri Lanka’s AMR response. Chapter 6 contains the National Action Plan for Combating Antimicrobial Resistance in Sri Lanka (2023-2028). It presents the strategic interventions under each priority areas identified under the Plan along with actions and activities, monitoring and evaluation indicators, responsibility and timeframe for each intervention.
