Abstract
This Ordinance introduces measures to control the spreading of rabies in Sri Lanka.
Local authorities shall be responsible for seizing all stray dogs and dealing with them as specified in the Ordinance.
Any person may kill on the spot any dog believed to be affected with rabies.
Every person having under his or her charge any dog affected with, or suspected to be affected with, rabies shall notify authorities and isolate the animal as provided for in the text. Local authorities may proclaim any area, where there is reason to believe that rabies exists, to be an area in danger of rabies.
The Minister may prohibit, from time to time, the importation into Sri Lanka of dogs from places that may be affected by rabies.
