Abstract
These Regulations are made by the Minister of Fisheries under paragraph (se) of subsection (1) of section 61 of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996. They apply in respect of any person engaging in recreational fishing activities. The Regulations state that a person shall not engage in any recreational fishing activity except under the authority of license issued under these regulations. Any endangered, threatened and protected fish species caught under any recreational fishing activity shall be released alive. The conditions and restrictions for engaging in recreational fishing activity are laid down which includes prohibition of purchase, sale or exporting the catch of recreational activity; catching fish species prohibited under the fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996 and the Faura and Flora Protection Ordinance; and dumping waste materials and polluting marine, brackish water, fresh water and shore based ecosystems. The procedure for registration of vessels for recreational fishing is provided. Every owner of a licensed vessel is required to submit data relating to catch species and landing in the form specified.
