Abstract
This National Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child & Adolescent Health + Nutrition Policy represents a milestone for improving health and well-being of women, children and adolescents, in order to end extreme poverty, promote development and resilience, and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The scope of this Policy is to provide a holistic approach to improving the health outcomes of women, children and adolescents in Liberia, ensuring that everyone has access to high-quality, equitable and sustainable healthcare services. Therefore, the Policy includes health system strengthening with an emphasis on healthcare infrastructure, human resources for health and health financing. The vision of the Policy is to have a healthy population with a particular focus on the preventable deaths of newborns, women, children, and adolescents for the attainment of equitable growth and sustainable development. The mission of the Policy is to support the Ministry of Health in promoting the well-being of women, newborns, children, and adolescents through interventions and the creation of an enabling environment for the effective delivery of quality services at all levels of the health service delivery system. The Policy aims at achieving the following objectives: strengthening leadership and governance for improved health outcomes; improving the provision of quality, equitable, accessible, and affordable essential services all levels of the healthcare delivery system; ensuring a robust systems for data collection, management, and analysis to monitor the situation and progress, informing evidence-based decision-making. The Policy is built on the following guiding principles: health as human right; gender sensitivity and responsiveness; accountability and transparency.
