Abstract
This Act provides for the constitution and registration of cooperative societies and a societies formed at the national level in Lesotho to promote co-operative development and defines functions, powers, rights and obligations and internal organization of registered societies.
The Act makes provision for a Commissioner for Co-operative Development who shall be responsible for, among other things, the registration and protection of co-operative societies. The Act prescribes conditions for and procedures of registration of cooperative societies. The Act also establishes a Cooperative Societies tribunal and requires a national Apex organization and a Central Co-operative Fund to be established.
