Decree No. 124 of the Minister of Environment validating the Regulation on wildlife trophies and expert council on wildlife trophies.

The Minister validates the Procedure for inspection of wildlife trophies (attached); the Regulation on expert council on wildlife trophies (attached); and the Regulation on selective hunting of cervids (attached). The Procedure for wildlife trophies regulates the organization of inspection of wildlife trophies with a view of determine and evaluate cervids trophies and their compliance with selection hunting criteria. Inspection shall be performed annually by the end of the hunting seasons or immediately after it (March-June). Inspection shall be organized at the regional level by environmental protection departments in cooperation with the Hunting Trophy Expert Council, hunters’ associations, forest enterprises and national parks' departments. Only horns from cervids hunted during the last hunting season must be presented for inspection. However, other hunting trophies of species which are not mandatory (e.g. wild boar, wolf, fox, fangs and skulls, wolf fur, etc.) may also be introduced for inspection, so that, if necessary, they could be evaluated in accordance with the international hunting trophy evaluation formulas. It establishes the criteria for the preparation of cervids’ trophies for examination. Regulation on expert council on wildlife trophies establishes that it shall be public-law advisory body subordinated to the Ministry of Environment. The task of the Council shall be to submit proposals to the Ministry of Environment regarding the regulation of selective hunting and hunting trophies. The aim of the Council activity is to establish the principles of hunting in Lithuania. Regulation on selective hunting of cervids selective hunting of live herbivores (elk, deer, fallow deer, roe) in order to improve the quality of the herd of these animals and the quality of horns. Selection of animals destined for hunting shall be based on classification by ranks in order to ensure that, in the absence of natural selection, young and middle age well developed species are preserved. Age class - older than one year in male cervids indicated in the reference table 1 (attached). The selection group is a conditional group of animals to which the species are assigned according to their morphological features, health status and horn development. Species subject to hunting are classified as selective, mature and elite mature.
