Abstract
Environmental Protection Agency shall be budgetary institution, a public entity constituted by the Ministry of Environment. The Agency shall perform the following tasks: (a) to maintain environmental quality and ensure sustainable use of natural resources; (b) to assess environmental data and submit information to state institutions with a view of formulating environmental policy; and (c) to raise public awareness in the field of environmental protection. The Agency shall perform the following functions: (a) drafting of laws, rules and regulations in the sphere of environmental protection; (b) establishes water protection targets for surface waterbodies and keeps register of surface waterbodies, including classification of ponds, lakes and other waterbodies; (c) organizes state environmental monitoring; (d) performs analysis of hazardous pollutants and identifies pollution sources; (e) organizes environmental research and laboratory testing of pollutants; (f) performs environmental impact assessment; and (g) performs, within its sphere of competence, environmental audit.
