Law No. XII-1907 “On economic activities related to wholesale trade of raw milk and dairy products implying consequences for insurance activity”.

The scope of this Law shall be to prohibit fraudulent activities in the sphere of trade of raw milk in the process of conclusion of purchase and sale contracts between buyers and sellers (business entities) of raw milk. It establishes mandatory quality requirements for milk and dairy products and appoints public authority for supervision over compliance with the established requirements. The following abusive practices shall be prohibited: (a) unilateral termination the contract for the sale of raw milk without notifying the other contracting party within the time limit specified in the contract, which may not be less than 30 days; and (b) modification of the conditions for the sale of raw milk without notifying the other contracting party within the time limit specified in the contract, which may not be less than 30 days. Dairy products manufactured in milk processing enterprises operating in Lithuania, included in the list approved by the Minister of Agriculture, and supplied to the internal market, must be labelled in accordance with the procedure established by the Minister of Agriculture, indicating the country of origin of raw milk. The initiative of launching proceedings for the infringement of this Law shall be taken by: (a) economic entities; (b) state and municipal institutions; and (c) associations representing economic entities. Individuals shall have the right, in accordance with the procedure established by the national legislation, to apply to the court for compensation for damage caused by violation of this law.
