National Energy Independence Strategy 2050.

This Strategy establishes Lithuania’s long-term energy policy framework through 2050. The strategy aims to ensure that domestic energy production meets national energy demand and that the energy sector becomes climate-neutral by 2050. Strategic objectives are organized under four pillars: safe and reliable energy supply; 100 percent climate-neutral energy; transition to an electricity-based economy and development of the energy industry; and energy resource availability for consumers.
The Strategy provides for synchronization of the Lithuanian electricity system with the Continental European electricity networks and the development of electricity transmission, distribution, storage, balancing, and reserve capacities. It also includes measures concerning energy security, crisis preparedness, energy reserves, and the physical and cybersecurity protection of critical energy infrastructure.
To achieve climate neutrality, the Strategy outlines the expansion of renewable energy generation, including onshore wind, offshore wind, and solar power, and provides for the evaluation of small modular nuclear reactors. It promotes the replacement of fossil fuels through electrification of transport, heating, and industry, and through the use of renewable and other energy sources. In addition, it includes measures concerning greenhouse-gas emission reductions, energy-efficiency improvements, hydrogen production, carbon capture and utilization, and the production of synthetic fuels and other hydrogen-derived products.
The Strategy also provides for the development of an electricity-based economy and related energy industries, including hydrogen and energy-export activities. It contains measures concerning environmental protection, including pollution reduction, biodiversity and ecosystem protection, and sustainable use of natural resources, as well as provisions addressing consumer access to energy resources, vulnerable consumers, and energy poverty.
