Order No. D1-164 of the Minister of Environment amending Action Plan on the Conservation of Landscape and Biological Diversity for 2015–2020.

The Minister amends item 11.7 by adding the following wording: “11.7. The fourth objective of biodiversity conservation is to ensure the adequate protection, restoration and use of wildlife. The Law on Wildlife of the Republic of Lithuania as of 1999 and its implementing legislation are outdated and inappropriately regulate control of the plentiful invasive species of plants. The status of fish communities is gradually improving, but not yet satisfactory. In recent years, salmon stocks have increased by 10 times, but, like the wetland resources, it still does not reach 50% of potential river productivity. The resources of the sturgeon are rapidly disappearing. In lakes, predatory fishes are decreasing, and carp and rough (non-commercial) fish species are increasing. In order to improve the current situation, annual plans are made for fish breeding in unprofitable state inland waterbodies. Fishfarming regards various valuable and endangered species also due to continuous improvement of fish migration conditions and migratory routes. In the period 2015-2020 this work must continue by further strengthening control of the use of wildlife, by improving fishing methods and gear, by eliminating harmful fishing methods, ensuring rational fish stock enhancement in inland waterbodies, effective regulation of the abundance of large cormorant populations and their habitats. The timely implementation of these challenges is essential to ensure the sustainable functioning of inland waterbodies ecosystems”.
