Abstract
Action Plan 2017-2021 on antimicrobial resistant micro-organisms spread prevention and control is a nationwide multi-sectoral policy document aimed at protection of public health through monitoring and antimicrobial resistance data. It describes the procedures for the collection, storage, analysis and provision of information on antimicrobials resistance of clinically and epidemiologically relevant micro-organisms.
The scope of the Action Plan is to reduce antimicrobial resistance potential preventing the emergence and spread of micro-organisms.
Objectives of the Action Plan shall be as follows: (a) to develop and implement cross-sectoral cooperation; (b) to expand and improve antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial drugs consumption and nosocomial infection monitoring systems; (c) to ensure the proper use of antimicrobials in medicine, implementing measures based on scientific evidence; (d) to ensure the proper use of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine, implementing evidence-based interventions; (e) to reduce the incidence of nosocomial infections through hygiene and infection prevention measures; (f) to raise public awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance, ensuring effective communication, training and improvement of skills of specialists; and (g) to conduct research on the use of antimicrobial drugs and antimicrobial resistance, effective measures to reduce antimicrobial drugs consumption and antimicrobial resistance, research and evaluation.
It is also related to antimicrobial resistance and data on the use of antimicrobial drugs in veterinary and human medicine collected according to different data formats and protocols, with a view of comparison of collected complex data.
The scope of Action Plan 2017-2021 on antimicrobial resistant micro-organisms spread prevention and control shall be to encourage the use antimicrobials, by including them in the lists of reimbursable medicines oral antibiotics against staphylococci and promoting their use and to improve the provision of information to patients about the activities of ASPI evaluation of activities, periodic epidemiological surveillance of infections and their risk factors, the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant micro-organisms ensuring the appropriateness of monitoring, prescribing anti-infectives level.
It is equally important to monitor compliance with hygiene rules and to implement reasonable research guidelines to reduce the spread of infection and resistant micro-organisms. There is a growing body of research showing that resistant bacteria occur in the environment. This indicates that residues of antimicrobial active substances remain in water and soil, thus becoming another factor driving the spread of resistance. But systematic bacterial resistance and residues of antimicrobial active substances in the environment monitoring systems and the protection of the environment against pollution by antibacterial agents’ standards are not yet available.
