Abstract
The aim of this Program shall be to reduce pollution of surface and groundwater by nutrients, in particular nitrogen and phosphorus compounds, from agricultural sources, in order to ensure the continuous improvement of the status of waterbodies and the absence of wastewater that affects eutrophication of surface waterbodies. Objectives of this Program shall be as follows: (a) train, inform and encourage farmers to use environmentally friendly farming technologies; (b) apply pollution abatement measures to livestock farms with more than 10 contract animals; (c) improve the legal framework complying with European Union and international environmental requirements in order to reduce the negative effects on agriculture from sources on surface water and groundwater; (c) carry out regular monitoring of the condition of soil and waterbodies to assess the impact of agricultural activities and to establish a monitoring network for surface waterbodies with a view of improvement of the state thereof; (d) carry out research to address optimal manure storage capacity and rational use of fertilizers in agriculture; and (e) collect information to better assess the impact of agricultural activities on water reservoirs.
