Abstract
The Action Plan for the Sustainable Use of Plant Protection Products 2013-2015 is a sectoral action plan of Latvia.
The Action Plan aims to support food safety. To this end, it sets out measures concerning the protection of the aquatic environment and drinking water; and informing the public on the results of the monitoring of plant protection product residue, specifying instances where MRL has been exceeded in the plants and plant products of local origin, EU origin or those imported from third countries.
The Action Plan also aims to make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more productive and sustainable. To this end, it provides for granting of approvals for the placement of plant protection products on the market and their use in Latvia; monitoring in place for the placement of plant protection products on the market; training of professional users, operators, vendors and advisors of plant protection products; improvement of the advisory system in the field of plant protection; consumer protection; measures towards the protection of the aquatic environment and drinking water; reduction of risks associated with the use of plant protection products in specific areas; use of non-chemical plant protection products; measures towards informing the public and awareness-raising regarding the use of plant protection products; system of inspection of equipment for the application of plant protection products in place; aerial application of plant protection products; safe handling of plant protection products; controls of the use of plant protection products in place; measures towards the implementation of the general principles of integrated pest management; reduction of the spreading of illegal and counterfeit plant protection products; and indicators for assessing the impact of the use of plant protection products.
