Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

The competent institutions of the parties responsible for the implementation of this agreement are: (a) on the part of the Republic of Latvia - the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia; and (b) on the part of the Republic of Kazakhstan - the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The parties develop and expand mutual cooperation in environmental protection and prevention of environmental pollution in the field that is in the interests of both Parties, and also promotes the further development of relations in the field of economy, science and technology in order to jointly solve global and regional ecological problems. Cooperation between the parties in the field of environmental protection is implemented within the framework of their respective national regulatory acts and taking into account their international commitments in the following sectors: (a) management of protected natural areas; (b) conservation of biological diversity; (c) global climate change; (d) protection of ozone layer; (e) combating desertification; (f) cross-border air pollution; (g) waste management; (h) protect ion and use of water resources; and (i) environmental monitoring.
