Abstract
The Regulation prescribes the notification procedures for the contained use of genetically modified micro-organisms; the procedures for the issuance of a permit for contained use and cancelling thereof; the duties and rights of supervisory and control authorities; the duties, rights and liabilities of science establishments; the risk assessment of contained use; the safety criteria for genetically modified micro-organisms; and the general principles for work with genetically modified micro-organisms. The Regulation does not apply to contained use activities, if the genetically modified micro-organisms utilised therein comply with the safety criteria referred to in Chapter 7 of this Regulation and the referred-to criteria have been published in the Official Journal of the European Communities; genetically modified organisms which may deliberately be released in conformity with the laws and regulations regarding deliberate release of genetically modified organisms; and food and animal feed permitted to be distributed in accordance with European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No. 1829/2003 of 22 September 2003 on genetically modified food and feed.
