Abstract
This Law regulates the protection of life and health of people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation, import, export and transit of sources of ionizing radiation and nuclear materials, transportation of radioactive sources and nuclear materials, management of radioactive waste, as well as other issues of importance for radiation and nuclear safety and security. The standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency in the field of safety and security and related directives of the Council of the European Union were transferred to this Law (see page 1).
Activities and/or activities in the field of ionizing radiation are subject to reporting, authorization (registration, license, approval) and inspection supervision, in proportion to the size and probability of exposure resulting from them and the impact they may have, with the aim of reducing such exposure or improving radiation and nuclear safety and security. Principles of radioactive waste management are laid down in article 7. Article 9 declares that the construction of uranium enrichment facilities, nuclear fuel production facilities, nuclear power plants, spent fuel processing facilities, research reactors, spent fuel storage facilities and related radioactive waste storage facilities at the same location is prohibited. Prohibitions on working with sources of ionizing radiation are defined in article 10, other prohibitions are laid down in article 11. Supervision provisions are prescribed in Chapter XVII. Offences and penalties are given in Chapter XVIII.
