Regulation on the List of POPs substances, methods and procedures for managing POPs waste and limit values of concentrations of POPs substances related to the processing and disposal of waste containing or contaminated with POPs substances.

This Regulation prescribes the list of POPs substances, the method and procedure for management of POPs (persistent organic pollutants which are toxic chemicals that adversely affect human health and the environment around the world) waste and limit values of concentration of POPs substances that are relating to the processing and disposal of waste containing or contaminated with substances. List of POPs substances and concentration limit values of POPs substances that relate to the management of waste consisting of, containing or contaminated with substances (POPs waste) is given in Annex 1, which is an integral part of this text; List of waste that contains, consists of or is contaminated with POPs substances on which alternative waste removal procedures can be applied is given in the Annex 2. POPs waste is managed in such a way as to: 1) prevent release of substances into the environment and contamination other waste with POPs substances; 2) the waste packaging is protected from leakage, damage, rust or high temperature, i.e. it repacks and re-labels according to need; 3) take adequate measures to prevent spillage from waste; 4) place protective pads under the packaged waste; 5) liquid waste is removed with pumps and suitable chemically resistant pipes, intended only for handling POPs waste.
