Abstract
This Law provides for registration of deeds and documents and contains related provisions. Chapter II lays down the Registrars and Inspectors at different levels such as the Inspector General of Registration, Registrars of Region or State or Union Territory officers, Inspectors at the district, city and township levels. Chapter III establishes the Registration of Deeds offices at various levels. Chapter IV contains a list of documents which require compulsory registration under this Law and documents for which registration is optional. Chapter V mentions the time limit for presenting documents for registration. Chapter VI indicates the persons who have a right to present the documents for registration. Chapters VIII and IX make provisions for registration and deposit of wills. Chapter XI lays down the duties and powers of Registrars and Inspectors. Chapter XII provides for appeal against decision of refusal to register. Chapter XIII requires the Ministry to specify fees payable for registration, searches, copies etc. Chapter XV contains prohibitions and Chapter XVI provides for penalties.
