Territorial Sea and Maritime Zones Law, 1977 (Law No. 3).

The Law is divided into the following Chapters: Title and Definitions (I); territorial sea (II); Contiguous Zone (III). Continental Shelf (IV); Exclusive Economic Zone (V); Offences and Penalties (VI); Miscellaneous (VII).
Section 3 of Chapter II declares the territorial sea of Burma to extend 12 nautical miles from the baselines which are specified in the Annex to this Law. Other provisions of Chapter II contain provisions relative to the innocent passage of fishing vessels. The Contigous Zone extends twenty-four nautical miles from the baselines (sect. 10). The outer limits of the Continental Shelf of Burma are either determined by the natural prolongation extending up to the outer edge or if the natural prolongation is shorter up to 200 nautical miles measured from the baselines (sect. 12). The EEZ extends to a distance of two hundred nautical miles from the baselines (sect. 17). The Law specifies rights of Burma in respect of the Continental Shelf and the EEZ. Provisions of Chapter VII deal with the implementation of the Law.
