Abstract
National Program “Fruits and Berries” is a nationwide policy document is aimed at increasing the variety, quality and production of agricultural commodities, improving competitiveness by developing a value chain of products that meet international quality standards, and sustainably meeting the growing demand for fruits and vegetables in the domestic and foreign markets, increasing jobs and exports. It will be implemented in order to increase the income of households and enterprises and to improve the supply of fruits and berries to the population.
The following principles shall be followed when implementing the program: (a) adherence to international standards, quality and hygiene requirements at any stage of the product value chain; (b) priority support for production of export-oriented, import-substituting ecologically clean products; (c) ecofriendly innovative ecological production; and (d) ensuring the participation of the government, private sector, academic institutions, and industry professional associations.
The scope of the Program is the extension of the cultivation of sea buckthorn 10,000 hectares and the cultivation of other species of fruits to 2,000 hectares, to sustainably provide the population with ecologically clean and nutritious fruits and berries, to reduce imports, and to increase export income by improving competitiveness.
Objectives of the Program shall be as follows: (a) creating a favorable legal and business environment for the development of fruit and berry cultivation, increasing the variety and production of crops and products, and improving competitiveness; (b) regional development of fruit and berry cultivation variety selection, primary propagation, maturation, and seedling production, increase the supply of drought, cold, and disease-resistant, localized seedling varieties; (c) fruit cultivation and production integrated in the development of innovation, advanced techniques, technology, and scientific research, empowering the human resources of the industry; and (d) developing marketing strategy and identifying the demands of foreign customers searching access to the country’s internal market.
