Abstract
The scope of the National Program Healthy Environment is to ensure access of the population to a healthy environment and to reduce the negative impact of climate change. The goal of this Program is to improve the conditions for people to live, work, and learn in a healthy and safe environment by reducing the impact of environmental pollution and climate change on human health.
The Program sets forth the following objectives: (a) improve air quality and reduce the negative impacts of air pollution on human health; (b) ensure the quality and safety of drinking water and reduce the impact of soil pollution on human health; (c) improve the quality of environmental health surveillance and research; (d) strengthen the capacity to respond to threats and risks to human health from climate change; and (e) improve waste management in healthcare institutions.
The Program outcomes shall be as follows: (a) improving the quality and safety of air and drinking water in residential areas and reducing soil pollution levels with a view of creating a healthy and safe environment and reducing the incidence of diseases among the population caused by environmental pollution; (b) providing the public with factual information about the negative impacts of environmental pollution on human health; and (c) improving cooperation between interdisciplinary and non-governmental organizations, citizens, communities, businesses, and organizations.
