Abstract
The scope of this Law shall be to protect public health by preventing iodine deficiency and to regulate manufacturing and consumption of iodinated salt. The state central administrative body in charge of health matters shall have the following plenary rights in preventing iodine deficiency: (a) to develop and implement policy on prevention of iodine deficiency of the population; and (b) to identify appropriate iodine requirements for iodine salts and other products and incorporate them into national standards. The state central administrative body in charge of food issues shall exercise the following powers in respect to prevention of iodine deficiency: (a) to develop supply policy for the manufacturing of iodinated salt; (b) to create a nationwide information network on the manufacturing and supply of iodinated salt; and (c) to improve quality of iodinated salt and to introduce advanced technology. Foodstuffs must be iodinated in accordance with production methods and standards. The iodine content shall be monitored by the competent authority in the process of manufacturing, trade, use and storage of iodinated salt. This Law consists of III Chapters divided into 11 Articles. Chapter I lays down general provisions. Chapter II regards organization of prophylaxis of iodine deficiency. Chapter III contains miscellaneous provisions.
