Abstract
The purpose of this Law is to establish the legal basis for the creation of conditions to ensure gender equality in political, legal, economic, social, cultural and family relations, and to regulate relations related to their implementation.
The Act sets out the principles of gender equality and, generally, the state policy on gender equality. It also defines measures to promote gender equality and determines the mandate in respect of gender equality of the State Great Hural, the cabinet of ministers, prime minister, the National Committee on Gender, central and local government agencies, the Civil Service Council and local self-governance bodies of all levels. The Act furthermore provides with respect to public participation, legal proceedings, and oversight and monitoring of the implementation of legislation on gender equality. It also defines offences.
The National Committee on gender is a public body composed of non-staff members and is responsible to ensure equal participation of the public and the government in and sustainability of the implementation of gender equality policies. The National Committee on gender shall have a Secretariat. It shall, among other things - coordinate and organize activities on the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of gender policies, programs and special measures; define economic and legal measures necessary for the implementation of the gender equality policy and to provide professional and technical guidance and advise in carrying out of these measures.
