Abstract
This Mongolia’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) strengthens its climate ambition under the Paris Agreement, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30.3% unconditionally and up to 52.8% conditionally by 2035 compared to a business-as-usual scenario. The NDC focuses on transitioning from coal-based energy—currently supplying 90% of electricity—to renewable sources, improving energy efficiency, and promoting low-carbon technologies in transport, industry, and construction. Additional measures include restoring degraded rangelands, enhancing forest carbon sequestration, and introducing smart livestock and crop management practices. Mongolia also commits to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with its Vision-2050 and Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy.
Adaptation priorities address vulnerabilities in water resources, biodiversity, forests, agriculture, health, and disaster risk reduction. Actions include expanding protected areas, improving water security through advanced technologies, and strengthening early warning systems. Social inclusion, gender equality, and climate education are integrated across all sectors.
