Order No. А/405 of the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry validating the Regulation on livestock registration procedure.

Regulation on livestock registration procedure shall be applicable to separate marking and registration of livestock bred in Mongolia. Livestock marked separately and recorded in the National Livestock Registration Database shall be considered registered livestock. When registering herdsmen and owners of animals, they shall be registered using the household code attributed by the National Statistics Committee. Special marking tools shall be used for the registration of livestock. Depending on the characteristics of the animal type and species, earring with a code system, radio and chips with magnetic wave frequencies and their accessories shall be used. Marking tools shall meet the requirements of international and national standards. A unique personal number consisting of 3 letters of the country's name or "MGL" and a total of 10 digits is marked on the distinguishing tool. When distinguishing cattle, earring with personal number and bar code shall be used for cattle and camels, for horses shall be used a chip and collar with a stamp and code. Chickens, quails, geese, ducks, turkeys, dogs, cats, and rabbits shall be marked by ringing, collaring or chipping. Annex contains classification of local Mongolian breeds, strains and hybrids.
