Abstract
These regulations apply to food additives which are used, or intended to be used, as ingredients during the manufacture of or preparation of food and are still present in the finished product, even in an altered form. The schedule attached lists out the categories of additives covered by these provisions, including colours, preservatives, anti-oxidants. Flavourings for use in foodstuffs and substances added to foods as nutrients are excluded. Food additives which are not intended for sale to the ultimate consumer may be placed on the market only if their packaging or labels bear the information specified by regulation 4 hereto. On the other side, regulation 5 specifies the information to be given in the labels of food additives intended for sale to the ultimate consumer. The Second Schedule attached to these regulations lays down general criteria applicable to the use of food additives.
