Abstract
The present Rules shall govern the production, processing, distribution and introduction of products of animal origin for human consumption, in compliance with the provisions laid down in Directive 2002/99/EC. The aim is to ensure that at all stages of the production, processing and distribution of products of animal origin within the European Community, food business operators do not cause the spread of diseases transmissible to animals. To this end, products of animal origin must be obtained from animals which fulfill the animal health conditions prescribed under rule 3. Products of animal origin for human consumption shall be subjected to veterinary certification (rule 5) and oficial veterinary controls (rule 6). Products may be imported from third countries as long as they comply with the requirements hereby established (rule 7).
