Abstract
The scope of these regulations is to regulate bluefin tuna aquaculture activities, as well as those fisheries and commercialization activities related thereto, and to promote the sustainable operation of the bluefin tuna aquaculture industry with respect to the sustainability of the bluefin tuna fisheries, in compliance with European Union law and other bindinginternational law obligations. The Director shall be responsible for all the purposes of these regulations and its functions are listed by article 3 under sub-regulations (2) to (5). The Regulations also sets prohibitions related to the aquaculture activities carried out by non-licensed or authorized operators. Article 5 establishes that operators are obliged to accept on board their vessels or into their establishments national and, or regional observers as the Director may require and collaborate with them to allow and facilitate the fulfillment of the roles of said observers. The Regulations also set provisions concerning the transshipment of BFT, the towing and transfer at sea of bluefin tuna as well as the video monitoring and recording of such transfer, which will then be used so as determine the number of fish being transferred. The transfer shall be documented and communicated to the director. Also the caging of the bluefin tuna is regulated and recorded and requirements are set for the cages.
