Abstract
This Act amends the Territorial Waters and Contiguous Zone Act with respect to measures of enforcement and in particular actions regarding measures within Maltese waters, measures in the contiguous zone, regarding vessels on the high seas and the right of hot pursuit. Section 8 (old section 6) now sets out the actions which a maritime enforcement officer may take in respect of a Maltese or foreign vessels navigating on the high seas and defines the conditions and requirements of the right of hot pursuit by Maltese “relevant vessel or craft” (defined) of vessels suspected of having committed any relevant offence (defined) in the territorial waters or contiguous zone of Malta. The Continental Shelf Act is amended so as to make some of these provisions relative to hot pursuit applicable to offences committed under that Act.
