Abstract
The species of trees listed in Schedules I, II, and III and trees indicated in areas listed in Schedule IV are protected. These areas are declared nature reserves (reg. 3). The Director for the Protection of the Environment shall be responsible for the administration and execution of these Regulations. Regulations 6 to 9 prohibit various actions that may harm protected trees and provide for the authorization of other actions in respect of protected trees. The Minister responsible for the Environment may make a Tree Preservation Order under regulation 11. Regulation 13 regulates the grazing of animals near protected trees. The Director may stop the importation of trees that in his opinion can endanger the biological identity (defined in regulation 4) of Malta and the Minister may draw up a list of "alien invasive species" that may not be propagated, sown, planted, imported or sold in Malta (reg. 10).
