Abstract
The Beach Authority, established under section 5 as a body corporate for purposes of this Act, shall be to ensure proper control and management of public beaches in Mauritius and Rodrigues, i.e. a space along the coast which, by notice published in the Gazette, has been declared to be a public beach by the Minister responsible for the subject of housing and lands. This space includes an area between the low water mark and the high water mark, and also the surrounding waters up to a distance of 100 meters. The Authority shall implement projects relating to the conservation and protection of the environment of public beaches, the enhancement of the quality of sea water and other specified objectives, regulate use and management of public beaches and advise the Minister on all matters relating to the management and development of public beaches. The Authority shall be managed by a Board. The Minister may, after consultation with the Board, make such Regulations as he thinks fit for the purposes of this Act. (23 sections)
