Abstract
This Act provides rules for the generation, transmission, distribution or bulk supply of electricity and defines powers and functions of the Regulatory Authority ("the Authority") established under the Utility Regulatory Authority Act 2004 in respect of control of and supervision over such services.
The Act consists of 47 sections divided into 6 Parts.
No person shall provide an electricity service, unless he or she holds a licence issued by the Authority under this Act. The Authority may issue a licence in respect of an activity listed in the Schedule. The Authority may exempt a person from obtaining a licence in the case of small or household generation of electricity. The Authority shall maintain a register containing such data on each licensee as the Authority may decide. The Authority may require a licensee to develop and submit to the Authority, for its approval, standards and procedures applicable to any matter relating to the protection of the interests of customers. The Authority shall draw–up performance standards and codes.
