Abstract
These Regulations provide for various matters relative to Marine Protected Areas within Mauritius. Marine Protected Areas are those areas that may be established under the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act 1998, i.e. Marine Reserves, marine Park or a Fishing Reserve.
The 30 regulations are divided into 8 Parts: Preliminary (I); Administrative provisions (II); General provisions for the preservation of marine protected areas (III); General prohibitions within specific marine protected areas (IV); General provisions applying to different zones (V); Specific provisions for Blue Bay marine park (VI); Specific provisions for Balaclava marine park (VII); Offences and penalties (VIII).
Part II regulates the application for permits under the Act. Part III contains some rules that apply to all protected areas. Provisions of part IV prescribe specific prohibitions for each protected area, in particular with respect to the use of fishing gear and the protection of fauna and flora. A Marine Park may be divided into zones as specified in regulation 17.
