Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of the National Women’s Council as a body corporate and defines its functions and powers. The objects of the Council shall be to – (a) promote women’s empowerment and gender equality; (b) ensure and promote the active participation of women in the social, economic and political fields in order to further their overall empowerment; and (c) provide a platform for women to voice their needs, concerns and aspirations. the Council shall, among other things, advise the Government and implement Government policies relating to women’s empowerment and gender equality.
