Ports (Operations and Safety) Regulations 2005 (GN No. 52 of 2005).

These Regulations, made by the Mauritius ports Authority with the approval of the Minister under section 65 of the Ports Act 1998, provide rules relative to port operations, the landing and handling of goods (including fish and dangerous goods) and behaviour of persons and vessels in port areas. They also concern environmental safety in ports and pollution of port waters.
No person shall bring into a port any dangerous goods, whether on a vessel or by land transport, unless the goods have been certified by the master or the agent of the vessel, or the consignor, or the carrier, that the goods have been properly marked, packed and labelled in accordance with the IMDG Code and with any specific requirement of the Authority in that respect.
The master of any vessel including, but not limited to, a small fishing vessel and yacht arriving and leaving, shall establish and keep contact with the Port Master's office. The Regulations prohibit the casting or placing of any fishing net in the inner port area and the casting or placing of any fishing net in the outer port in such a manner as to cause an obstruction or danger to any person or property including any vessel or mooring.
The master or agent of every incoming vessel shall not less than 48 hours before the arrival of the vessel, sign and deposit with the Operations and Commercial Manager and the licensed operator 2 copies of the inwards manifest in the English or French language containing the following particulars:- (a) the gross weight, measurement, marks, numbers and contents of each package or consignment; (b) the names of consignees according to the bills of lading or the names of the persons actually paying the freight for the goods; and (c) such other information as the Authority or its licensed operator may reasonably require.
Every vessel shall, while berthed in the port, provide for segregation of garbage in compliance with MARPOL.
