Abstract
This Agreement between India and Maldives establishes maritime boundary between India and Maldives in the Arabian Sea. Each Party shall have sovereignty over all islands falling on its side of the aforesaid boundary, as well as over the territorial waters and the airspace above them. Each Party shall have sovereign rights and exclusive jurisdiction over the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone as well as over their resources, whether living or non-living, falling on its own side of the boundary and shall respect rights of navigation through its territorial sea and the exclusive economic zone in accordance with its laws and regulations and the rules of international law. The Parties shall seek to reach agreement as to the manner in which cross-border petroleum resources shall be most effectively exploited.
