Abstract
The purpose of this regulation is to ensure sustainable aquaculture development in the Maldives and in its maritime zones including the sea, internal waters of atolls, reefs, lagoons, water ponds and islands and to ensure the protection of the ecosystem, biodiversity and natural resources at all stages of aquaculture to be sustained for the current and the future generations. This regulation applies to all persons engaged in aquaculture. This Regulation lays down provisions on licensing, allocation of areas for aquaculture, aquatic organisms permitted to be imported for the purpose of aquaculture, quarantine of imported aquatic organisms, protection of health of aquatic organisms in aquaculture facilities, reporting of diseases and mortality, production of food and dietary supplements by an aquafeed license holder used for aquaculture in compliance with international standards, drugs and chemicals used in aquaculture to treat or prevent diseases, disease control, and penalties.
