Abstract
This Plan is made pursuant to Article 18 of the Act No. 2019/14 for the management of the fishery and is the primary basis for guiding the authorities and stakeholders in the sustainable development of the tuna fishery and trade in the Maldives. Chapter 1 contains the introduction, title, overall purpose, scope and application, guiding principles and interpretation. Chapter 2 contains the information about various Tuna Biology and Habitat. Chapter 3 provides an overview of the Indian Ocean Tuna Fishery Trends and Stock Status. Chapter 4 contains an overview of the Maldives Tuna Fishery. Chapter 5 provides for Tuna Management in the Maldives. Chapter 6 comprises of objectives, strategies, and actions that would contribute towards achieving the overall purpose. Chapter 7 contains Management Measures of this Plan including establishment of a Tuna Management Advisory Committee, licencing requirements, data collection, catch certification, strengthening Monitoring, Control and Surveillance measures etc. The Plan also consists of monitoring of the implementation of the plan and reviewing the same.
