Abstract
This Act provides for the allocation of Maldivian land for different purposes and uses, for the issuing of land and state dwellings for residential purposes and for the sale, transfer and lease of Maldivian land.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Housing and Environment will be responsible for maintaining land records of the Maldives. Land records shall contain the following information: the way in which land has been allocated; location and size of the land; the Ministry to which land was transferred to, the purposes and date of transfer; and private dwellings, private lands and their owners.
The Act further provides for conditions in issuing dwellings for residential purposes, procedures to follow for the application for a state dwelling, registration of state dwellings, procedures for the purchase, sale, lease or transfer of state dwellings, etc.

This Act repeals the Religious Endowment Act (Act No. 2/70), the Third party property on land Act (Act No. 28/71), the Government Confiscation of Non-settled Land Act (Act No. 15/72), the Registration of land, dwellings and buildings in Male’ Act (Act No. 52/78), the Prohibition of excavating soil and coral from government dwellings and land in Male’ and the selling of such materials Act (Act No. 55/78) and the Materials found during excavation of soil in Maldives Act (Act No. 59/78).
