Abstract
This Act makes provision in respect of the internal waters, territorial sea and contiguous zone and the exclusive economic zone of Maldives. Section 2 defines "internal waters. Section 3 introduces the notion of "archipelagic waters". This is an area within baselines as specified in the Schedule excluding the internal waters. These baselines also act as points of measurements for the territorial sea and the EEZ of the Maldives. Remaining sections deal with overlap of the EEZ with the one of another State, sovereignty and sovereign rights within the EEZ, jurisdiction over the contiguous zone, entry of a foreign vessel into the internal waters, archipelagic waters, territorial sea, or EEZ, rights under international law, and regulation making powers of the Government. The last sections (18 and 19) give definitions and repeal other legislation.
