Abstract
This Act provides for reduction and cessation of the importation and use of ozone-depleting chemical substances in Maldives. The objectives of the Act are provided in section 2. The chemical substances listed in Schedule 1 of the Act are prohibited from being imported into Maldives and any devices containing such chemical substances are also prohibited. The chemical substances listed in Schedule 2 of the Act are controlled imports into Maldives. These chemicals can be imported only after obtaining permission from the Ministry responsible for environment protection. The Ministry shall determine the quantity and persons who may import chemical substances mentioned in Schedule 2 of the Act. The timeline to reduce and stop importation and use of chemical substances mentioned in Schedule 2 is provided in Schedule 3. The persons authorized to import the chemical substances listed in Schedule 2 of the Act shall share with the Ministry on an annual basis information regarding transactions made. The offences and penalties are laid down.
